Stream Crackle via Wi-Fi With a Media Player
If you have access to a Wi-Fi network, hooking up the projector to a media player is the easiest solution. As long as the projector has an HDMI port, you can plug any media streaming device such as Roku, Amazon Fire TV Stick, and Google Chromecast into the projector.
Since Android can connect wirelessly to those devices, playing Crackle on the projector becomes just as easy as streaming it to your TV.
- With the projector powered on, plug the media player into an open HDMI port and wait for it to power on. The device might include an additional USB cable for power; it, too, needs to be attached to the TV or a wall outlet.
- Set up the streaming device (Roku, Fire Stick or Chromecast) if it isn’t already configured to be used with your Wi-Fi.
- Open the Crackle app and tap the cast button.
- Choose the device plugged into the projector.
- Find the title you want to watch and choose Play.
Instead of playing from your phone, the streaming device will load the video over Wi-Fi directly to the projector. You can use the Crackle app on the streaming device to control playback.
Connect Crackle to the Projector With HDMI
If you don’t have a streaming media device or a strong Wi-Fi connection, one option for playing Crackle from your Android to a projector is to connect the two with an HDMI cable.
If you’re without Wi-Fi completely or the projector is too far from the router, your phone’s mobile connection (if you have the data for it) can stream Crackle to your phone, and the HDMI cable will pass it on the projector.
This method uses the charging port of your phone, so you won’t be able to simultaneously charge as your play Crackle unless you use a wireless charger that keeps that port open for use. An alternative is to opt for an MHL cable which lets you charge at the same time. If you go that route, ensure that both your phone and the projector support it.
- Check the type of USB port your Android device uses. Newer ones use USB-C. Once you know the port your Android phone has, you’ll need to find a USB to HDMI adapter for it.
- Attach the USB end to your phone and the HDMI end to the projector.
- Start playing the video on your phone, and it will automatically mirror it on the projector, audio included.
Use Miracast for Playing Crackle
If your projector has Miracast built-in, you can connect directly from your phone, with no hardware required (not even a router). This method is ideal if you’re not interested in getting an HDMI cable or streaming device and your devices support screen mirroring.
If you’ve chosen this method for playing Crackle on your projector because there isn’t a Wi-Fi network nearby, you must download the Crackle videos first or be okay with using your phone’s mobile data.
Many phones support Miracast, but not all. If yours does, the following steps will get you going (these steps might not be the exact steps for your setup, but they should be close enough to get you where you need to go):
1. Use the Input button on the projector or its remote to select Screen Mirroring.
On some projectors, the button you’re looking for is called LAN. When the projector shows a menu, go to Network > Screen Mirroring > ON.
2. Pull down the notification menu on your phone by swiping down from the top of the screen, and choose the mirroring option. Depending on your device, it could be called Screen Mirroring, Smart View, Cast, Quick Connect, etc.
If you can’t find it, open the settings and look for it in the Connections or Display > Wireless display area.
3. Select the projector when you see it. It might be called something you don’t recognize, but it’s probably the right one if it’s the only item on the list.
4. Use the Crackle app to begin playing the video. It will display on the projector automatically.
